Impact Areas – United Way’s Community Assessment
(March 2000) laid the foundation to transition our funding system from a numbers/units
based approach to measuring the impact of services on individuals and families.
United Way redesigned its operational and corporate structure to support a more
focused and accountable approach to program funding. Program funding was redirected
from paying for the units of service provided, to paying for results, an outcome
based approach. United Way asked it supported program to begin measuring the
impact of their services on people’s lives, demonstrating how lives are
improved.
Programs were reassigned to support new Impact Areas:
Core Services – “Foundations of the social service delivery system
essential to health and wellbeing of the community addressing basic needs of
food, clothing, shelter and safety.”
Stable Healthy Families – “Families having the resources to thrive.”
Self Sufficiency – “People working to gain and keep independence.”
Healthy Neighborhoods – “Neighborhoods where people feel safe, secure
and proud to live.”
